This guide is written for both stylists and clients — stylists can use it as a teaching tool, and clients can follow it step-by-step at home.

Core Principles

  • Gentleness is Key: Handle your system as carefully as your own hair. Avoid tugging, scratching, or rough handling, especially around the lace closure base.
  • Low Heat Only: High heat damages human hair and weakens lace and mesh. Never exceed 150°C / 300°F.
  • Use Kerrie Capelli Aftercare Products: Only use products designed for professional hair extensions. Our sulfate-free, lightweight formulas are created to keep extensions soft, silky, and long-lasting.
  • Wash Minimally: Over-washing causes dryness and fading. Wash only when needed (usually every 1–2 weeks).
  • Professional Maintenance: The system must be maintained in the salon to ensure security and scalp health.

Daily Care Routine

Detangling

  • Detangle before bed and each morning.
  • Always start at the ends and work upward, holding the closure base with one hand to prevent pulling.

Styling

Shampooing

  • Stylists who want a thorough, brand-aligned aftercare you can hand to every client and reference during consults.

Follow this guide to protect hair health, preserve colour, and keep your extensions silky, tangle-free and wearable for longer.

Quick-start (Client Essentials)

Do this every time:

  • Brush gently 2–3× daily with a soft extension brush; hold at roots to support attachment.
  • Sleep with hair in a loose low braid or silk scrunchie pony, on a silk pillowcase. Never sleep with wet hair.
  • Wash 2–3× per week max. Upright, lukewarm water. Shampoo the scalp; condition mids–ends only.
  • Heat styling: always use heat protectant. Keep tools ≤ 180°C (356°F) and avoid daily heat where possible.
  • Keep oils/serums away from attachment points (rows, beads, bonds). Apply mids–ends only.
  • Swimming/holidays: minimise exposure to chlorine, salt and hard water. Rinse immediately after, use a protective braid and cap.
  • Maintenance: book every 6–10 weeks depending on method & growth. 

Aftercare Fundamentals (For Clients & Stylists)

1) Brushing & Detangling

  • Use a loop brush/paddle brush designed for extensions.
  • Support the attachment with one hand; brush ends → mids → root area.
  • Morning & night, and before washing & workouts.
  • For wind, gym, and car headrests: low braid to prevent friction knotting.

2) Washing Schedule & Technique

  • Frequency: generally 2–3× per week (over-washing dries extensions).
  • Wait 48 hours after fitting before first wash.
  • Before you wash: detangle thoroughly and secure rows into a low pony or two loose braids.
  • Temperature: lukewarm; avoid very hot water which can lift cuticles and fade colour.
  • Shampoo: work at scalp/row lines; do not rough up or invert head. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Conditioner/Masks: mids–ends only; keep 2–3 cm away from attachments.
  • Clarifying: use occasionally (e.g., after heavy product use, hard-water buildup, or holiday) then follow with a moisture mask.

3) Drying & Styling

  • Towel blot (don’t rub/twist). Apply leave-in & heat protectant.
  • Rough-dry to 80–90% with airflow downward, then smooth with a brush.
  • Keep heat tools ≤ 180°C (356°F). Use the lowest effective setting and limit passes.
  • Avoid direct heat on seams, beads, or thread. Always guard the top inch.

4) Sleeping & Daily Protection

  • Never sleep wet. Dry completely first.
  • Braid/low pony with a silk scrunchie; silk pillowcase recommended.
  • For gym/helmets/hats: low braid to reduce friction at nape & rows.

5) Products & Ingredients

  • Shampoo/Conditioner: professional, sulphate-free formulas that are hydration-focused.
  • Leave-ins: heat protectant, lightweight moisturising spray, anti-static serum (mids–ends only).

6) Colour, Toners & Chemical Services

  • Best practice: colour the natural hair to match the extensions. Re-colouring extensions is at your own risk and can shorten lifespan.
  • Purple/blue shampoos: can grab unevenly (especially near attachments) and can dry the hair. This is at your own risk and can shorten lifespan.
  • Never bleach extensions. Avoid keratin straightening, perms, relaxers on extension hair.

7) Swimming, Holidays & Hard Water

  • Chlorine, sea salt, UV and minerals can dry and discolour hair (especially blondes).
  • If you swim: pre-wet with fresh water, apply a small amount of leave-in/conditioner to mids–ends, braid + cap, rinse immediately after, and cleanse/condition that day.
  • In hard-water areas or on holiday: add occasional clarifying + moisture mask to your routine.

Method-Specific Care

A) Machine Weft (Sewn Row)

  • Dry the seam thoroughly after every wash to prevent moisture sitting in the fold.
  • Avoid cutting through the weft seam; if a seam end is trimmed, seal it to prevent shedding.
  • No tight high ponytails in week 1; build tension gradually.

B) Genius Weft (Ultra-thin, hand-tied style)

  • Treat like a delicate hand-tied: do not cut across the track; cut only at designated points and seal ends.
  • Because it’s ultra-thin, support the row with your hand while brushing near the seam.
  • Maintenance identical to sewn rows; be extra mindful of heat on the seam.

C) Nano Rings

  • Keep conditioners, oils, Heat and masks off the first 2–3 cm near each nano bead.
  • Daily, feel for any slippage or crossed strands; book in sooner if you notice movement.
  • Brush in sections; never yank from root.

  • Dryness/Frizz → Add leave-in after every wash, a light oil on mids–ends nightly, reduce heat, add weekly mask.

Can I tone my blonde extensions? it’s at your own risk. We recommend colouring your natural hair to match the extensions instead.

Can I use hair oils? Yes — but keep them on mids–ends and away from attachments.

Are extensions safe for gym-goers? Absolutely. Secure in a low braid. Rinse sweat and cleanse as needed; sweat salts can dehydrate hair.

Why is my hair tangling at the nape? Friction (scarves, collars, car seats). Increase brushing, use silk, and keep ends hydrated.

Will sun holidays ruin my extensions? Not if you protect them. Pre-wet, braid, cap, rinse, and mask after exposure. Reduce heat-styling during your trip.

Returns policy

* All Return Requests must be made within 14 days of receiving the order (delivery confirmation through the provider). The product must be unopened and in like new condition. We will ask that you send the product back and pay for the postage to send this product back. Our returns team will issue a refund after the product has been received and determined that it is in a resaleable condition. 

Kerrie Capelli is not responsible for lost or stolen packages that track as “Delivered”. Please check with your local USPS office or FedEx office if you believe your package has been lost or stolen. Please note that refunds are not issued by Kerrie Capelli on insured lost packages.

If 14 days have gone by since your order was received, we can’t offer you a refund or exchange. This is noted on the delivery page.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging. If the item has been damaged during shipping this will have to be notified within 3 days of receiving the product.

To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase.

  • Class Deposits: All class deposits are non refundable on booking, class deposits can be transferred to a different class on alternative dates.

The shipping cost for orders is non refundable.

Kerrie Capelli is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced packages. We print the shipping label right from the website on how you entered it. If the incorrect shipping address is provided, or no special instructions are provided eg. (buzzer number) the client is responsible for paying all extra shipping costs. Please ensure you have items delivered to a location where you will be able to receive the package personally.

We have a 7 day return policy, which means you have 7 days after receiving your item to request a return.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unopened or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. We must have the product returned before we replace or refund. 

To start a return, you can contact us at info@kerriecapelli.com If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label if the product was delivered damaged upon arrival (pictures needed), Extra or wrong product was delivered then we will send instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

PRODUCT DAMAGED IN SHIPMENT OR DEFECTIVE ITEM

Proof of damage needs to be sent within 3 days of the delivery of your package in order to initiate a damage package investigation. Please email our team at info@kerriecapelli.com to open up a claim. Please note, that this can take up to 7 -10 business days to process this claim.

CANCELING AN ORDER

If you would like to cancel or change an order that you've just placed, please email us at info@kerriecapelli.com as soon as possible. We will try to accommodate your request; however, orders for items that have already been processed, packaged, or shipped cannot be canceled. (Class Deposits are non refundable)
